The board of the National Council of Churches in Australia has appointed Dr Kate Power as its new general secretary, the first to be based in Queensland. She has led Queensland Churches Together since early 2025.

She follows Liz Stone, who was farewelled in September after thirteen years with the council. The president, Rev. John Gilmore, said Dr Power would bring energy, insight and skill to building unity among the council’s eighteen national member churches.
