More than 70 church and ecumenical leaders met in Chiang Mai from 31 May to 3 June for a Christian Conference of Asia consultation on ecumenism in Asia, and were joined by representatives of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences and the Asia Evangelical Alliance.

Their closing communiqué called for a renewed ecumenical vision and a united Christian witness in Asia, and warned against churches drifting into separate “ecumenical archipelagos”. It encouraged collaboration, synodal listening and shared mission, affirmed interreligious dialogue and the leadership of women and young people, and looked ahead to the conference’s seventieth anniversary in 2027.
