The international commission for dialogue between Methodists and Roman Catholics, which was set up in 1967, has completed the twelfth round of its work. On 7 October its members approved the round’s report, One in Faith and Ministry to the World: Reflecting on Unity and Diversity for the Mission of the Church, after a final plenary meeting in El Salvador in 2025 and further work online.

The report finds that sixty years of conversation show that the two churches confess the same faith, and it calls for formal steps to recognise the communion they already share. Archbishop Shane Mackinlay of Australia co-chairs the commission for the Catholic Church, and two Australian theologians, Rev. Prof. Glen O’Brien and Rev. Prof. Gerard Kelly, are among its members.
