Rev. Dr Anne Burghardt, general secretary of the Lutheran World Federation, spent six days with the Lutheran Church of Australia from 16 to 21 September, visiting Adelaide, Alice Springs and Hermannsburg. She met Indigenous communities and the staff of a church boarding school in Central Australia, and worshipped with congregations in Nuriootpa and Adelaide.

She also talked with church leaders about the church possibly moving from associate to full membership of the federation. The church includes the Lutheran Church of New Zealand, and has about 140,000 members across the two countries.
