The Bishops’ Lent Appeal for 2026

During Lent, New Zealand’s six Catholic diocesan bishops wrote to Catholics around the country inviting them to support the Bishops’ Lent Appeal, which Caritas Aotearoa New Zealand runs on their behalf. This year’s theme was “Hear the Voice, Answer the Call” (Whakarongo ki te reo, Whakahokia te karanga).
The bishops described giving as a practical form of Christian charity, and one focus of the appeal was Rohingya refugee families living in crowded camps in Bangladesh. People could give online or with an envelope at Mass.
