The National Council of Churches in Australia published Easter messages from the national leaders of its member churches, noting that Western churches would celebrate Easter on 5 April and the Orthodox and Oriental churches would keep Pascha a week later, on 12 April.

The council’s president, Rev. John Gilmore, reflected on the question in Luke 24, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?”, and said that Easter proclaims that death does not have the last word. Leaders of the Anglican, Catholic, Orthodox, Uniting, Lutheran, Quaker, Salvation Army, Baptist and Pentecostal churches also contributed.
